Father of Four Murdered While Working at Apartment Complex as Family Secures $1 Million Settlement

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Zagoria Neely Injury Attorneys secured a $1 million settlement in the wrongful death case of Peter McGrath, a husband and father of four who was robbed and murdered while responding to a service call at an apartment complex. Attorney Brooks Neely represented McGrath’s widow, Amber McGrath, individually and on behalf of her husband’s estate.
McGrath, working as a locksmith on June 5, 2022, was at an apartment complex in Stone Mountain when an assailant unknown to him shot him multiple times and murdered him. The assailant then placed McGrath’s body in the back of his locksmith van and drove it off the property before it was lit on fire. McGrath’s body was found charred in the back of his van. McGrath is survived by his wife and their children.
“Peter went to work, and his family expected him to come home,” said Attorney Neely. “Instead, Amber lost her husband, and their children lost their father in the most horrific way a family could. No amount of money can undo the pain or bring back what this family so tragically lost.”
Numerous incidents of violent crime were reported at the property and in its vicinity during the years preceding McGrath’s death. These instances include homicide, aggravated assault, rape and robbery. It alleges the defendants were aware of the prior criminal activity and had reason to anticipate the risk of violence.
The wrongful death case centered on security at the complex and the circumstances surrounding McGrath’s death.
